The motel's history dates back to the 1930s The motel was developed using the shells of two existing historic buildings.
It was the biggest economic development in the town for several years.
The motel started with 12 rooms and was developed by four Millthorpe locals, Sam Kay and his wife, Shona, and builder Greg Good and his wife Loretto. Construction started in the last week of January 2008. It involved the gutting of a 1930s produce store and a Victorian cottage. It was of the greatest importance that the streetscape and the overall look of the buildings were preserved. Also, as much as possible of the internal features was retained. The produce store now holds reception and two loft apartments while the cottage has a two bedroom apartment and studio room.
The rear of the block was first developed with eight units in new structures, with another eight units added later.
The Millthorpe Boutique Motel was opened in late 2008 offering four star accommodation and over the years the motel has kept its four star AAA rating.
